Laura Boulton Events | Vendor Love
In May 2019, Arturo and I photographed Sarah and Shawn’s beautiful spring wedding at the DCA Meadowlands in Darien, Connecticut. Lucky for us, they had also brought on Laura Boulton, of Laura Boulton Events, onto their vendor team! Laura is a wedding planner based out of Darien with impeccable style and attention to detail for each of the events she designs. I’m always amazed at what she creates for her clients and the way she brings their wedding days to life!
Laura is sweet as pie, and I’m so excited to have her join our Vendor Love blog series. Read on to learn more about Laura Boulton Events and see how she can create some magic on your wedding day!
Tell me a bit about you and your business! How did you get started in the wedding industry?
"I started my business almost 11 years ago in June of 2010, which is still a surprise to me! My career began in the hospitality business as the catering director for a female-owned full-service catering company. I loved working with our clients on all aspects of their celebrations. Shortly after the owner (and my mentor) retired, Laura Boulton Events was born. Designing special occasions was the perfect creative outlet. Weddings just came naturally to me and are my favorite events to curate.”
What do you love most about being a wedding planner?
"I love getting to know my couples! First and foremost, wedding planning is a collaborative process and it is built on trust. From the initial meeting through the entire process, I work to get to know my couples and deliver a wedding experience that is a true reflection of their personality and style. Along the way I want it to be a fun, not stressful, journey.”
What should couples know about your process and about working with you?
"The fact that as the principal of a truly ‘boutique’ event planning company, every couple works directly with me. I pride myself on professionalism in dealing with vendors, my strong attention to detail, and in organizing all aspects of an event. Communication is at the core of how I work and my couples quickly discover how accessible I am.”
What is your favorite part about working with couples who are planning their wedding day?
"I always enjoy the exchange between couples as we work together, and how their vision is brought to life. I love when they walk into their wedding reception and are blown away.”
What (or who) inspires your creativity?
"I greatly admire and respect all of the planners who put their heart and soul into their events. Tara Guerard is one that stands out and is an icon in the event industry. She is a South Carolina-based designer whose impeccable taste and style are reflected in every event setting she creates while injecting a modern twist. I am also inspired by the vast community of talented wedding professionals in our area who, like me, challenge themselves to be better and more creative at every event.”
How early should couples book you to ensure you'll be available for their wedding day?
"The answer to that has shifted amidst the pandemic as couples have had to pivot and reschedule dates. Typically couples book me approximately one year in advance of their wedding date for full planning and coordination. If couples are seeking month-of planning and coordination, I may not have the availability on their date, particularly if they realize that they need help six months out.”
What is one tip or piece of advice you'd give a couple for their wedding day?
"Be true to yourselves and have fun along the way! Remember that this day is ultimately about the celebration of the union of two people who love each other.”
