A WEDDING AT THE THAYER HOTEL
Devon and Brendon were married on the first day of fall at The Thayer Hotel in West Point, New York. Was it a rainy day? It sure was. Were the winds stronger than we would have liked? Yes. Was their day absolutely magical? There’s no doubt about it! From a colorful floral design to a beautiful venue, plus a couple joyfully in love, Brendon and Devon’s fall wedding was nothing short of spectacular!
Arturo and I love photographing weddings in the Hudson Valley, so we were especially excited that Devon and Brendon’s day brought us to The Thayer Hotel in West Point. As soon as we arrived that morning, we immediately recognized that some of the architecture of this historic hotel is similar to what you might find in Europe. Knowing this, we knew that we’d be able to create some beautiful portraits for our couple, even if the weather didn’t want to cooperate with us.
The bride and groom got ready with each side of their wedding party in rooms across the hall from each other. Devon’s gown had elegant lace detailing on the bodice, and Brendon’s tie matched the bridesmaids’ dresses perfectly. When they were each ready for the day’s festivities, it was time to get these two down the aisle!
Unfortunately, the rain pushed the ceremony indoors, but luckily we were still able to take photos outside! The front of The Thayer Hotel has a large, stone overhang at the main entrance, which allowed Arturo and me to photograph outdoor newlywed portraits for the new Mr. and Mrs. If you know me, you know I enjoy the challenge of a rainy wedding day. I was ecstatic when Devon and Brendon were determined to drive to one of the lookout points on the West Point Campus which overlooks the Hudson River for additional portraits (even if it meant they’d get a little wet!).
That night, Brendon and Devon were celebrated endlessly by their family and friends. Heartfelt toasts were given by loved ones, a delicious meal was had, and everyone couldn’t help but make their way onto the dance floor. It was certainly a beautiful way to celebrate their first day of marriage. There’s no denying how much these two are loved!
THE LOVE STORY
Brendon and Devon met when they were both college students at Columbia University. They each had similar majors and both ran track (and were even in the same training group!). The pair didn’t start getting to know each other until one of Devon’s friends began organizing group outings. When Brendon and Devon finally had the chance to spend more time together, there was an immediate connection. Two months later, they were official, and now they’re married!
